Family Law – Fixed Fee Option

How much will this cost?

With our focus squarely on keeping things as simple and stress-free as we can for you, we have been an early adopter of Fixed Fee Arrangements.

We offer an Initial Fixed Fee Block, which gives you financial peace of mind during the uncertain times of beginning a legal process. That first fee block is designed and refined with your matter in mind. This initial service block is usually for 2 or 3 months, depending on the steps already underway and the urgency involved.

We nominate these longer periods as our fixed fee blocks because in family law it takes time to make progress, and we want that initial fee block to have great value for you.

A Fixed Fee block also take away the fear that asking another question or sending us something else to review might be silly because it’s not relevant and will only cost you more money. We want you to feel comfortable and confident with us by your side, and so we encourage you to contact us as often as you need.

At the end of the Initial Fixed Fee Block, we review where we are in the resolution process, and discuss with you whether another Fixed Fee Block is the best fit, or if we move to a fee-for-service model at that time.

How to get started?

If you feel like we might be the right people to help you, we’d love to start with a free chat on the phone to find out what’s happening and talk about whether it’s time for legal advice and assistance. After that first phone chat, if you’re interested in more detailed advice, rather than offering another short free consultation that can’t really cover the issues, we will move to a longer consultation so that we get to know more about your situation and provide advice tailored for you.

Our initial consultations usually last between 60 to 90 minutes, with our priority being on completing our discussions together. We don’t have a “time’s up” approach. Our fees are $445 (gst incl) for that consultation, with that fee including us preparing a written summary of the overview of your matter and a guide of the next steps for you. You will also receive a copy of the book, Who gets the Dog?, a family law guide written by our Principal Lawyer, Kathryn Hodges.

If you decide to retain us to look after your family law matter, whether that is locking in an agreement and making it legally binding, or by acting for you in a matter where you don’t have an agreement yet, we will tailor an initial fixed fee arrangement to help get things started for you.

Our aim is to keep things as simple and clear as they can be for you, and to focus on seeing your family law issues resolved and behind you, so that you can move on with peace of mind.
